April 2023: World Crude Steel Production Dropped by 2.4%; Türkiye's Production Down 20.6%; EU27 Production Down 11.7%; Sharpest Production Drop is in Türkiye
? World crude steel production dropped by 2.4% in April 2023 to 161 million tons.
? In April, crude steel production of the EU dropped by 11.7% to 11.1 million tons, production of Other Europe dropped by 17.3% to 3.5 million tons and Asia's production dropped by 1.5% to 121.1 million tons. Among the regions, largest production drop is seen in EU 27.
? During Jan-Apr 2023, while total global crude steel production dropped by 0.3% to 623 million tons, production increased only in Asia (2.3%) and Middle East (1.9%).
? Among the top 10 steelmaking countries, 6 countries increased production and 4 countries had production drops in April 2023.
? In April, largest production drop is seen in Türkiye among the top 10 steelmaking countries.
? In Jan-April period, while 7 countries dropped production, production of 3 countries increased.
? In the first 4 months of 2023, 3 countries increased their crude steel production: China (4.1%), India (3.0%) and Iran (0.1%)
? In Jan-Apr 2023, Türkiye had the sharpest production drop (21.3%) and become the only country having double digit production drop.
